Acton Voters Narrowly Pass Levy Limit Override for School and Municipal Funding
In a tightly contested vote, Acton residents approve an additional $6.6 million in taxes to support local schools and government.
In a decision that underscores the community's commitment to education and local governance, Acton has narrowly approved a levy limit override. The measure, which passed by a razor-thin margin, will permit the town to assess an additional $6.6 million in real estate and personal property taxes. This funding is earmarked for the operating budgets of Acton’s public schools and municipal government for the fiscal year beginning July 2024.
The vote, held across seven precincts, revealed a near evenly divided community, with 3,145 residents voting in favor and 3,112 against, a difference of just 33 votes. The result reflects the town's commitment to supporting essential services despite the financial burden it may place on taxpayers.
Detailed Results:
This vote only authorizes the spending. It does not authorize the budget. The budget will be decided at our annual town meeting on Monday, May 6 at 7PM, at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. Whether you voted Yea or Nay, come on down on May 6th, doors open at 6pm!
